Nico's Weg Film Review

Learning Deutsch In The Movie Form:

Nico's Weg

Nico's Weg is a light series that can be watched for fun and education. Besides its entertaining aim, the main goal of this movie is to educate people with some new German vocabulary. Here, the viewers can learn together with the main character, Nico Sebastian.

The story begins with the arrival of Nico at Germany Airport. He leaves Spanyol and runaway from his family because they forced him to study, whereas he doesn't want to. In German, he wants to meet his aunt, Yara, that owns a bicycle shop, and maybe find some job that suits his personality. But unfortunately, a taxi driver misinterpreted his bag as the taxi passenger's bag and take it away. So Nico left empty with no bag, no money, no one to help, and lack of German language skills.

Like fresh air in the middle of the desert, a child called Emma and her aunt, Lisa, offering help and a place to stay. Evidently, Lisa rent an apartment with her friends also. So Nico get so many friends there. And fortunately, Lisa's father is a policeman. They ask him to help find Yara's shop by a single photo. He is so lucky to meet Lisa and her friends.

Nico not just stays quiet and waiting for the police to find his bag, he does so many things and learns Deutsch every day. For example, he helps Mark and Tariq at the restaurant, babysitting Emma, take the grocery market, and playing football with the others. He gets new experiences every day.

One day, Lisa's father says he find Yara's shop, and evidently, Mark and Tariq are Yara's friends. Nico feels so grateful for that. But, Yara's not there. She goes to Zurich for something that nobodies know. Then Nico needs to wait again and again. But luckily, Selma, Nico's new crush, tell him a good news. She finds his bag placed on the edge of the street. Some of Nico's clothes are missing, but his phone and passport are okay.

Then, the A1 episode ended with Yara's back to German.

For me, Nico's wag movie is very-very flat. There is no specific conflict that can bring the movie more interesting. The plot is just like a documentary film that records how Nico's daily life after he lost his bag. Also, the subtitle is very limited. But gratefully it can be changed into English subtitle.

In my opinion, this movie just very suitable for anyone who wants to learn Deutsch from a movie because the vocabulary still not that hard to understand and the way the actor speaks is clear and not fast. I also learn some new vocab, it is.

1. Kaputt : broken

2. Abschiedsparty : farewell party

3. Prost : cheers!

4. Abendbrot : dinner

5. Was kostet das Roggenbrot? : How much the bread costs?

As an Asian who lives in Eastern culture, I find some new western people interactions that different from me. For example, they get used to greet another person with a hug. But, also I find something that similar to Indonesia, it is a "kos-kosan". Lisa and her friends apartment and Inge's house feels like a kosan-kosan in Indonesia.

Although I feel very bored and sleepy with the plot, the scenery, and how the actors' act feels so refreshing. They work very hard on their roles and doesn't look stiff at all. In conclusion, Naco's wag movie still worth watching and suitable for anyone who has spare time and wants to fill it with something valuable and still light to process.
